Even if the county fair is still months away, kids can make their favorite treat of cotton candy at home with this motorized machine. The cotton candy maker takes about 10 minutes to warm up and then kids drop just 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar into the top of the orange knob in the center. The real fun is watching that tiny bit of sugar spin into a web of sticky edible cotton within the machines bowl. Six paper cones are included to twirl in the sugary threads and create a sensibly sized portion of cotton candy (softball sized as opposed to the usual county fair helping that is about twice the size of a kids head). A rounded lip around the edge of the bowl is supposed to keep the mess contained but there is still quite a bit of splatter to clean up. This toy is great fun as an after-dinner activity or for making treats at a kids birthday party, although a bit time-consuming for a group as the machine only produces enough cotton candy for about two people at a time. --Cristina Vaamonde
